Note on the use of outlading points

From 2014, more than 225 outlanding points has ben added to the waypoint database.  These points have type "L" or "TL" in the database.

Note: The pure L-points shall not be used as turn points in competitions.  You can, of course, use them as turnpoints in badge and record flights.

You can choose to include these outlanding points by ticking "Outlanding fields" when downloading your points.

The outlading points have been carefully selected based on aerial imagery from Norge i Bilder and detailed map data from the Norwegian mapping authority. Some of them are visually verified on ground, but the majority is not.

Before using these waypoints, there are a few important things to bear in mind:

  • Even if the outladning fields looks OK in aeral images, they make look like in the picture above when you arrive.
  • Hence, never approach an outlanding field with minimum height to spare, but have ample margings to inspect the field and select an alternative field if you have to.
  • We did not include any outlanding fields in the database unless there are alternative fields nearby.
  • There are power lines, fences and ditches near or on several of the selected fields and nearby alternatives. You still have to assess the field and the approach carefully from the air before landing.
  • Does your sat-nav distinguish between landable and non-landable waypoints? Remember that the database also contains non-landable waypoints. If you wish to use the outlanding points on cross country flights, but your sat-nav does not distinguish between the two types, you may opt to download landable points only. However, you cannot use these waypoints in competitions.

NLF/S would like to thank Arne Marting Guettler, Per Morten Løvsland and Agnar Renolen for their work in collecting and assusiing the quality of their outlanding points.
